The Lassithi Plateau, known for its iconic windmills and fertile soil, offers a landscape of rare natural beauty and serenity. Situated at an altitude of around 800 meters, in a setting that blends mythology with Cretan rural life, you’ll enjoy an authentic Cretan meal featuring local stews, aromatic pies, and herbs thriving in the region. This experience combines nature, tradition, and the heartfelt hospitality of inland Crete.
Before or after the Meal:
Take a walk around the plain of the plateau, where rotating windmills and the white sails of the past create a uniquely aesthetic scene. You can visit the Dikteon Cave, the mythological birthplace of Zeus. Also, make a stop at the Folk Art Museum of Psychro, which showcases traditional plateau life, or enjoy a coffee in one of the local cafés overlooking the mountains and cultivated fields. A bike or car ride along the 23 km ring road offers stunning views and a taste of authentic Crete.
